Urban life Quality Indicators and How to Measure Space: Practical Study of Tobruk City

Abstract

This paper discusses the question of whether there are reliable physical indicators when compiling quality of urban life for any spatial unit (village, city, province, country) and by identifying some physical indicators that provide researchers a chance to differentiate between locations.
This paper followed the descriptive approach cartographic represent and statistical analysis for field study results of this purpose, as on some books and dissertations which highlighted background theory for discussion of these indicators.
The results of the study classify of the quality of life in urban areas of Tobruk city into three categories good patterns , medium and low, using some physical indicators which measure two items ,the first for measuring spatial unit outline, and second on the measurement of housing.
Based upon this paper recommends physical indicators pattern to evaluate housing and built environment surrounding when compiling of urban life of geographical region.
Also, more attention should be made to improve the quality of urban life for Tobruk city in general, with focus on the neighborhoods classified under medium and low types , in addition to improve the physical condition of the neighborhoods which was rated good style, especially since it came less in some indicators.
