Effectiveness of an acceptance and commitment therapy program for developingpsychological flexibility (PF) in a sample of patients with substance abuse disorder (SUD) in Jordan

Abstract

The current study aims to verify the effect of a therapy program based on Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on the development of psychological flexibility (PF) in a sample of patients with substance use disorder (SUD) in Jordan. The study sample consisted of (20) male patients with substance use disorder, aged (20-30) years from patients diagnosed with substance use disorder. The study used the scale of the acceptance and commitment of substance users to measure psychological flexibility (PF). The study's methodology was experimental in the semi-experimental method of two pre and post-testes, with the design of the experimental and control groups, the researcher used statistical tests (Wilcoxon, Man Whitney). The results have shown there are no statistically significant differences between the score ranks mean of the experimental and control groups in the pre-test, also showed There are statistically significant differences between the scores ranks mean of the experimental group in the pre-and post-measurements on psychological flexibility in favor of the post-measurement. It also found statistically significant differences between the scores ranks mean of the experimental and control groups after applying the program on psychological flexibility in favor of the experimental group. It was found that there were statistically significant differences between the scores ranks mean of the experimental group members in the post- and follow-up measurements of psychological flexibility in favor of the follow-up measurement.
