Spatial analysis of air cargo flights in Iraq for the year 2020

Abstract

The research is interested in studying air cargo flights in Iraq for the year 2020, as many interested in air transport studies for passenger flights have not focused on cargo flights, despite their speed and the possibility of rapid response to transport requirements to meet the required emergency transport as happens in major disasters and their role For the transportation of perishable goods, medical materials and others.
The total number of air cargo flights carried out in Iraq by foreign and Iraqi companies amounted to 1274 cargo flights in 2020, as Erbil International Airport issued all airports with 579 flights, while Basra International Airport got the lowest number of 58 flights out of the total air cargo flights in Iraq for the year 2020, in addition to Sulaymaniyah International Airport having the highest number of air cargo flights according to the months of the year 2020, and it was for the month of September, which amounted to 62 flights.

The total amount of goods transported through Iraqi airports (unloaded + loaded) for various Iraqi, Arab and foreign airlines and for all Iraqi airports amounted to 35,406 tons for the year 2020, a decrease of 33.1% from 2019 due to the spread of Covid-19 and the restrictions imposed on travel. The mail carried (loaded only) to various airlines amounted to 13 tons to Baghdad International Airport only for the year 2020, foreign companies captured the air freight market by 92% , From the foregoing, it is clear that the process of air shipment of goods is complex due to the different sources and the spacing of their places, which leads to the multiplicity of handling operations on the shipment.
