The Development of Urdu Broadcast Drama

Abstract

           This research tackles the importance of the media, especially radio broadcast, which represents a unique means of communication, and which becomes I ncreasingly important. The scientific literature is gathered on the attribution that the radio is invented by “Guglielmo Marconi” (1874 - 1937).
          The first regular radio broadcast in the United States has appeared in August 31, 1920 and its name was "KDKA".
The appearance of radio did not delayed in the Indian sub-continent where NGOs began to establish listening clubs since 1924, and the governmental radio station was established in Dehli in 1935, and it was known as "انڈین سٹیٹ براڈ کاستنگ سروس: Indian state Broadcasting serves". Then it was called "All India Radio" (آل انڈیا ریڈیو) in 1936. Broadcasting has appeared in the state of Pakistan as soon as it was established on the fourteenth of August 1947, and this broadcast was known as "Pakistan Radio".
            As for the radio drama, it was appeared in 1924 when the first radio farce in the world was broadcasted from London Radio, and then radio drama became self-contained art, with its own name "Radio play".
          While radio drama in Hindopakistani subcontinent began with the radio appearance in 1935; where some writers and authors started to work with this new medium and to identify the technical rules of the radio drama through reading in the Western literature, therefore the radio drama passed in several stages, and they are divided by Urdu literature critics into four stages which are covered in this research in detail, and it also addresses the most prominent writers of radio drama and their most famous radio writings.
