Abstract

The research deals with the study of the “Adjective” in the Syriac language, and extracting the Morphological and grammatical functions that controls its usage, this is done through the terminology and definitions of the “Adjective” mentioned within the folds of different Syriac studies.
The first part of the research aims at handling the very limits of the adjective, both linguistically & idiomatically, same way Syriac Grammarians used to work with, and on the lead of the outcomes we concluded, was that the Syriac language includes two types of adjectives: the nominal adjective, and the verbal adjective.
The second part of the research handles the study of the morphological functions for the derivatives that hold the meaning of the adjective. This chapter has also included five sections that contain the study for the morphological functions for the: present participles, past participle, resemble adjective, hyperbolical form, comparison of adjective.
As for the third part – titled “Grammatical functions of the adjective” – its importance lies in displaying the grammatical functions for the verbal adjective that acts in place of the verb inside both the Predicative & attributive compounds, which expresses for the predicate, epithet, or the adverb of quality. As for the grammatical function of the nominal adjective, they are functions within the content of the phrase; as they are included either as subject, object or genitive.
