Abstract

The status of literature and writer in Arabian heritage obtain great interest from the people.
The aim  of this paper is to highlight the life of an Omani poet call Ibn Shaikhan al-Salimi، who was famous of linguistics. He lived sixty-two years، thirty two years in the nineteenth century، and thirty years in the twentieth century. He was consider one of the greater poet.
He visited the Gulf Arabic countries and sited poem in the front of their ruler. He worked as a teacher at Al Mudhaibi، Muscat، and al-Rustaq، where he died in September 1927. The paper will address the life of  Ibn Shaikhan al-Salimi and، conclude  with his writing. This paper depend on descriptive analysis and historical methodology.
This paper is divided into two sections; its substantive and first identification of Ibn Shaikhan، his childhood، education، indicating his environmental social، economic and political trends affecting intellectual and literary of Ibn Shaikhan. The second topic focuses on practical and scientific contributions of Ibn Shaikhan.
This paper relies on the historical sources of his contemporaries and the events mentioned in his diwan، within his Diwan  are found many poems that chronicled the events of his day and multiple trips، as well as other sources and references on the Omani literature in general.
The researcher is expected to find valuable information of Ibn Shaikhan’s biography and social، political، and economic conditions of his literary impact that undoubtedly contribute to the culture of Omani society.
