The Impact of Arabic Literature on the Malaysian Religious Story

Abstract

Islamic Literature, which had flourished in the Near East, contributed to rich the new form of Malay prose, which called Malay Hikayat. Among those are the Sirat of the prophet Muhammad, the narratives of the companions, the narratives of the Ancient prophets, some narratives of Muslim pious and the romances of Muslim heroes before Islamic period. The aim of this study tries to find out the contribution of Islamic stories to immergence the Islamic stories in Malaysian literature. This is divided into six  discussions: First discussion tries to trace the sources of Islamic stories which contribute to immergence the Islamic stories in Malaysian literature. Second discussion searches the major characters and plots of the Sirat of the prophet Muhammad. Third discussion tries to analyze the narratives of the Ancient prophets. Fourth discussion deals with the narratives of the companions. Fifth discussion traces some narratives of Muslim pious. Sixth discussion focuses on some romances of Muslim heroes before Islamic period. At the end of this study a conclusion is provided.
