The Study takes up the items in Ibn Duraid’s Jamhara Lexicon that were rejected by Al-Azhari in order to identify the latter’s method in linguistic criticism with an eye on the precision of his linguistic remarks. The Study attempts to identify reasons behind those remarks from a structural and phonetic perspectives all with objective of both uncovering the essence of the criticism and establishing its objectivity. The Study concludes with a number of reasons behind the criticism. Some of these reasons are phonetic/ phonological, others are dialectical, and still others are typographic and orthographic.
