Improving the quality of life: a sample of slum dwellers moved to Asmarat

Abstract

The research aims at identifying the vision of slum dwellers moving to Asmarat district in Cairo governorate for the quality of life. The problem of the research is the following: How did the transfer of slum dwellers to Asmarat affect their vision of the quality of life?
 The research adopts the following theoretical categories: (theory of needs - Max Weber vision - capacity Approach - Objective indicators of quality of life – The system theory -Lawton Theory).
The research questions are: What are the advantages of living in Asmarat neighborhood? What are the problems that families face after moving to Asmarat neighborhood?  What are the dimensions of the quality of life affecting the residents of Asmarat?
The research used, The following methods and tools (quantitative and qualitative) to achieve its objectives, such as:  Likert scale: (improving the quality of life in the neighborhood of Asmarat), social survey in the sample: (400) families .The observation tool, individual interviews, quantitative and qualitative analysis, open-ended answers, and SPSS Program.
From the results of the research: The transfer of slum dwellers to Asmarat neighborhood was an attempt to improve the quality of their lives in a better environment. Nevertheless, the lack of job opportunities in the Asmarat neighborhood contributes to the transmission the poor and the needy People to the new district. Also, mothers (housewives) suffer from low level of education. The residence is characterized by: cleanliness of the place - the availability of security - the quality of the housing units - the presence of water and natural gas - the expansion of playgrounds and streets - personal freedom – support for the expenses of schools.
: the establishment of new communities - planned - organized, to move the population of informal settlements, to contribute to improving the quality of life. Establishing economic projects to help them improve their income, and thus improve their quality of life. The need to develop transportation facilities to and from new neighborhoods, to meet the needs of the population, and save their time, effort and money, which contributes to support their sense of improving the quality of life. The need to support the basic facilities in new neighborhoods and communities, (education-health) - Religious institutions - bakeries - markets - shops), which supports the feeling of improving the quality of life of the residents of these neighborhoods and achieve their happiness. The need to establish a cinema at nominal prices, the establishment of training centers to teach crafts (electricity - plumbing - carpentry - weaving ... etc.).Translation copied
