Abstract

The present study aims at identifying The Impact of the Direct Activity Reading strategy on 5th primary class pupils Reading comprehension.
The population of the study includes 5th primary class pupils studying in the morning basic schools in the General directorate of education in chamchamal / sulaimaniyah during the academic year 2016 – 2017.
The totalnumber of the sample is 60 male and female pupils distributed in to tow sections: section A represents the experimental group which has been taught by the direct activity strategy and includes (31) pupils.Whereas section c represents the control group.
Which has been taught by the traditional method and includes (29) pupils.
The two groups have been equalized in age,IQ,pupils scores in Kurdish Language during the previous academic year. The teaching material has been identified from the 5th primary class prescribed textbook entitled "Kurdish Grammar reading" the behavioral objectives have been constructed and stated plus the teaching lesson plans for both groups have been prepared. An achievement test consisting of 40 items of MCQ,
Rearranging,matching, and completion types, has also been constructed.

The experimental work lasted for a whole course during the first academic year course. The two groups have been taught by the researcher herself. At the end of thestudy, the achievement test has been applied on both groups. Data has been analyzed statistically by using suitable statistical methods. Results show that the experimentalgroup pupils who have been taught by the direct activity reading strategy, have been superior on those in the control group. At the end of the study, suitable conclusions, recommendations and suggestions have been put forward.
