Abstract

The importance of fish farming in Terrestrial Ponds by investment the available land resources such as fallow land and surface water, the low cost of fish production compared to the high costs of producing other types of livestock, It represents fast-growing economic output, fresh fish can be obtained in all seasons as opposed to natural fisheries and provides employment opportunities for young people.
The research dealt with the natural and human factors that affect fish breeding in clay ponds and the detection of spatial variation of the distribution of pond, production and area, by using the statistical methods (ArcGIS&SPSS) to show the mean, standard deviation and correlation to detect the relationship between production and other variables, and represent them in maps. The research found a spatial variation in the geographical distribution of production, area of water, number of ponds, number of workers and the capital. According to the Governorates of the study area, Baghdad governorate was first place to the number of fish ponds and production while, Wasit Governorate was first place to the area of water. The research concluded a strong positive correlation between dependent variable production and other independent variables such as the number of ponds, water area and the number of workers and capital, as well the increase of these variables lead to increased production
