The impact of Climatic Elements on Traffic Accidents in the Governorate of Karbala - Iraq 2010-2015

Abstract

The traffic accidents are considered to be one of the most important contemporary  problems  that hinder development and   prosperity of societies. The human and economic losses caused by this problem are significant in developing countries. Both the World Health Organization and the World Bank confirm that road accidents are the second leading cause of death among the world's population, and it mainly concerns the 9-25 years old  and it is classified as the third leading cause of death among the world population of  The age group 30-44 years old,  The issue of traffic accidents is important because it is related to human life and their properties .it is recommended to clarify the causes of accidents in order to be addressing these causes and to reduce the rate of accidents. The research  focused on the relationship between climatic elements and the occurrence of traffic  accidents and  its increase in some seasons of the year as a result of the dominance of some climatic phenomena on others such as fog ,dust storms and low temperatures or strong wind in the of govermorate Karbala .Descriptive method and analysis using some statistical methods ,such us Pearson correlation were used to find that relationship.
