Abstract

This study aims to explore the pivotal role of women in fostering environmental awareness among children, contributing to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, the research utilized an electronic questionnaire administered to a purposive sample of 220 Bahraini women from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.

Key Findings:
1. Multidimensional Environmental Awareness: Bahraini women exhibit a comprehensive understanding of environmental issues, encompassing cognitive (knowledge), affective (emotions), and behavioural (actions) dimensions. These facets significantly influence their capacity to instil environmental consciousness in their children.

2. Positive Behavioural Practices in Child Rearing: Through daily interactions, mothers employ constructive practices to nurture environmental responsibility in their children. Examples include encouraging proper waste disposal by using designated bins, thereby mitigating environmental pollution.

3. There are a number of obstacles that limit the activation of the role of Bahraini women, from the perspective of the study sample. Some of these obstacles relate to the children themselves, and others relate to the system of values, customs, and traditions. Additionally, there's a lack of specialized training programs for women in the environmental field, as well as a generally low level of community awareness regarding environmental issues and methods of protecting and preserving them, which are considered fundamental goals for sustainable development
