This study aims to examine the phenomenon of ambiguities in the Qur’an, taking the story of Ṭālūt (Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 246–251) as a representative and richly illustrative case study. The research endeavors to identify and analyze the ambiguous elements embedded within this narrative and to explore their functional role in enhancing the overall meaning and thematic coherence of the story.
The structure of the study begins with an introduction outlining the research problem, its significance, and objectives. It then proceeds to address foundational aspects of the discipline, its historical development, its intersection with Isra’iliyyāt (narratives of Judeo-Christian origin), and the typology of ambiguities found in the Qur’anic discourse. The study concludes with a synthesis of key findings and practical recommendations.
