Abstract

The main objective of the study is to identify the causes of the spread of the phenomenon of drug abuse and addiction in Arab societies and methods to confront it, through the social analysis of literature, studies and research that dealt with the phenomenon of drug abuse and addiction. Therefore, the descriptive-analytical approach was used to identify the causes responsible for the spread of the phenomenon and its negative effects in Arab societies, and methods of countering it through the efforts of various social institutions responsible for the process of socialization. The study, through analysis, has reached a set of conclusions, including: that the phenomenon of drug abuse and addiction is related to a complex set of factors and causes responsible for the spread of the phenomenon of drug abuse and addiction, represented by the following factors: lack of religious motivation, group of bad friends, unemployment, weak legal control over the drug trade, excessive cruelty in dealing with children, addiction of a parent, staying out of the house for late hours, availability of money in abundance with free time, economic reasons, foreign employment, factors related to the media, factors related to the school environment, and disintegration prisoners. The study recommended the need for concerted efforts of all relevant social institutions as well as researchers in various related scientific disciplines to face the problem in an integrated framework that contributes to maintaining the stability and cohesion of societies
