Textual coherence in the language of Saudi theater A study in text linguistics

Abstract

This research addresses the issue of textual coherence in Saudi theatre, through the plays of Muhammad Al-Othaim. It falls within text linguistics, and it is considered a radical shift in linguistics because it represents a qualitative shift from sentence linguistics to text linguistics.
The reason for choosing the tagged topic is the lack of a previous study that focused on studying the language of Saudi theater, a linguistic-textual study that reveals the textual interconnectedness and its various forms and means in the Saudi theatrical language.
The research into the textual links in Al-Othaim’s theatrical blog aims to clarify the role of linguistic links in the cohesion of the theatrical text. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach based theoretically on text linguistics. The research progressed from theoretical analysis focused on introducing basic concepts to practical, practical study by analyzing selected examples of Muhammad Al-Othaim’s theatrical works.
The research led to the conclusion of a number of results, perhaps the most important of which is that the theatrical text contains important and diverse textual links, including pronouns, relative nouns, and demonstrative nouns, which have been shown to have a role in creating harmony and cohesion. It has also been shown that text linguistics allows the student to expand the angle of view of the language by going beyond the structures.
