The effectiveness of a counseling program based on positive psychology in developing religious values and reducing social anxiety among a sample of foreign students at Mutah University

Abstract

The current study aimed to verify the effectiveness of a counseling program based on positive psychology in developing religious values and reducing social anxiety among a sample of international students at Mutah University. Based on the techniques of positive psychology, the study was developed on an initial sample of (204) foreign students from Mutah University, of whom (26) students were intentionally selected to participate in the current counseling program, the first group was an experimental group The number of its members was (13) students who were subjected to the counseling program, and the second group was a control group of (13) students who were not exposed to any counseling intervention. The results of the study showed that the incoming students have an average level of religious values, and a low level of social anxiety, the results indicated that the students in the experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement in religious values and a decrease in social anxiety compared to the control group after applying the counseling program. And social anxiety, and based on the results of the study, the researcher recommended the need to use the counseling program with foreign students in developing religious values and reducing social anxiety.
