Abstract

The present study provides an extensive analysis of a rare silver dirham belonging to the Mongol Ilkhanate ruler Musa Khan, which was minted in Baghdad during the year 737. This coin represents a novel addition to the subject of Ilkhanid coins, as it has not been previously studied. What sets this coin apart is the fact that it features the names of four apostles, known as Uli al-Azm, which is the first instance of the names of these four messengers - Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, peace be upon them - appearing on the coins of Ilkhan Musa Khan. Despite his brief reign, which lasted no more than a year, there are other models and styles represented by the coins of Musa Khan that have yet to be explored. This specific style of the coin warrants further attention, as it bears inscriptions in two types of writing: Arabic Kufic script and Uyghur script. The present study includes photographic documentation of the coin, as well as a detailed examination of its design, inscriptions, and historical significance, thus contributing to the broader understanding of Ilkhanid numismatics.
