The positive or negative role of social networking sites and its impact on the family in an Egyptian village (a field study on a sample of rural family members in the village of Shaybah al- Nakaria in Sharkia Governorate as a model)

Abstract

The current study aimed at identifying the reality of the use of social networking sites by rural family members (spouses and children), standing on the impact of the positive or negative role of the sites, and showing its most important advantages or family risks in the village of Shaybah al-Nakaria in Sharkia Governorate as a model.
The theoretical approach of the study was based on Public domain theories in the virtual world, symbolic interaction, social role, risk society. The study used the sample survey method, questionnaire, observation, interview, and (Ca2) statistics as methodological tools. A total of (160) individuals, with an average of (70) individuals from the spouses, and an average of (90) individuals from the children.  The results indicated that members of the rural family use social networking sites continuously and for long periods, and Facebook ranked first in use and influence. The results indicated that the role of social networking sites has positive and negative effects. Rural areas in achieving communication and then continuous interaction between family members (spouses and children), achieving family cohesion, instilling a culture of dialogue in the hearts of children, forming new friendships, and developing the spirit of family social participation, in addition to publishing e-learning courses, and obtaining data or information related to issues Scientific research, and the issues of these are special. As for the most important risks of the negative impact of the role of social networking sites on the rural family, they were determined in the direction of electronic upbringing of children, falling into taboos or vices, forming some corrupt or fake friendships, increasing marital muteness, and the absence of interaction Families between the spouses and each other, and between them and the children, in addition to the neglect of the legal rights or the performance of family duties by the spouses, the provision of opportunities for marital infidelity or the formation of illegal relationships, then the reasons for requesting divorce, then the occurrence of family disintegration.
