This paper studies the influence of the consecutive political events, since the contact with the West, on the constitution and development Arabic novel. The research attempts to discribe and analyse the relationship bewteen the Arabs’ political defeats and disppointments and the floursihng of the newborn Arabic literary art. This relationship resulted in Arabic narritive falling in a state of despair; Arabic novel has become a memory of frustration in modern Arabic history. It embodied an equivalent discourse that showed the reactions of Arabic societies toward the frequent defeats. It als revealed how frustration and despair dominated the intellectual and litearry scenes in Arabic countries. The paper survyes a number of works written by novilsts from different parts of the Arabic world, reflecting on political, economic and military developments in the region. It also highlights the opinions of several critics and theorists of Arabic novel around the issue.
