Social Relationships in the Post-Social Distancing Associated with Covid-19 in Kuwaiti Society : A Descriptive Analytical Research

Social sciences researchers have recently become interested in studying the dynamics of social interaction during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, very little literature is available about the post-pandemic period. This study examines the nature of social relationships among Kuwaiti family members, relatives, and friends following the implementation of social distancing measures following the Covid-19 outbreak. Social exchange theory is used as a theoretical framework for this study, as are descriptive analysis techniques. A random sample of Kuwaitis was selected, containing both males and females, resulting in a sample of 437 individuals. Several noteworthy findings were found in the study, such as changes in social relationships following social distancing. Data was collected using an electronic questionnaire. An increase in social compatibility and communication, a shift towards strengthening relationships through online platforms rather than face-to-face interactions, and a consolidation of relationships within a family are some of these changes. Moreover, there is a tendency to limit direct interactions and gatherings with extended family members and friends. Based on variables such as gender, educational level, residential province, and income level, the study also identifies statistically significant differences in participants' responses regarding how social distancing impacts social relationships. In light of this research, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Information will receive valuable recommendations. Additionally, they suggest future studies in this field.
