Abstract

The study aimed to identify the barriers to the political participation of Kuwaiti women from their perspective in light of some variables. To achieve this objective, the study used the descriptive method and relied on the questionnaire to collect data. The questionnaire consisted of three dimensions: The first dimension included statements related to social obstacles. The second dimension included personal obstacles. The third dimension included legal obstacles. which was administered to a sample of 668 Kuwaiti women. The sample was distributed according to variables of age (21-30, 31-40, 41 and above), marital status (married, unmarried), educational level (less than university, university, above university), and employment status (employed, not employed). The results showed that the degree of social barriers to political participation for Kuwaiti women was high, the degree of personal barriers was moderate, and the degree of legal barriers was also high. The results indicated no significant differences in the responses of the study sample due to all variables on the first dimension (social obstacles), while there were differences in their responses due to age, educational level, marital status, and employment status on the second dimension (personal obstacles) in favor of those who were older, had higher educational levels, were married, and were employed. However, differences in responses on the third dimension (legal obstacles) were in favor of unmarried women.
