The role of effective communication skills in improving office services Ain Shams University: an applied study on the library of the Faculty of Arts

Abstract

This study deals with the role of effective communication skills in improving the library services provided in the library of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, using the field case study approach and distributing questionnaires to a sample of 60 male and female students at the eighth level in the Library and Information Department of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University. The study revealed that 53 male and female students, equivalent to 88.3%, see the importance of the role of communication skills and their effectiveness in providing office services, while 7 students, or 11.7%, see their lack of importance. While 46 male and female students see that communication skills in the effectiveness of office service are very important, at a rate of 76.6%, while 12 male and female students see them as important, at a rate of 20%, while only two students see them as unimportant, at a rate of 3.3%. The recommendations of the study were the need for effective communication skills between librarians and students in order to obtain an effective and distinguished library service, as well as the need to qualify library workers by enrolling them in training courses on how to deal with beneficiaries by applying communication skills in all services provided by the library.
