Abstract

This paper overviews features of biographies when writing about others in a book under the title of (Twentieth Century Zorba) by the Saudi author Abdullah Al Jaffry. He wrote this book about Mohamed Hussein Zidan because of their close relations. They were study colleagues and then fellows and friends. It was natural, therefore, for the emotional side to prevail not only in this book but also in all Al Jaffry’s writings because it is a prominent feature in them. Also, his biographic choices pertained similar features to his own character. He seemed as if he is writing about himself through writing about others.The paper discusses the following: the main structure of the book, biographic references approved by the author, as well   as biographic thresholds. There is also a comparison between Zorba and Zidan in similarity and between Zidan and Al Jaffry in biography. And Finally, a detailed outline of self -search through writing about others.
