The Effectiveness of a Solidarity Program in Improving the Positions of the Poor: A Field Study at two Villages of Assiut Governorate

Abstract

The current study examined the effectiveness of the Solidarity program in improving the positions of the poor in the Egyptian countryside. The researcher used the social survey method for the sample. He applied the field study upon a sample of beneficiaries in the solidarity program at the two villages named"Al-Azayzeh and Al-Mashea at El-Ghanayem Department. The Sample reached a total of 314 beneficiaries of the solidarity program. A measure of the researcher's design has been applied after being subject to arbitration. The results showed that there is a decline in the value of the assistance received by the majority of the beneficiary families. They were represented in Spending on food, drink, electricity, water and utilities, and that the implementation of the program affected on the increased awareness of the beneficiaries of the state interest of them. The program also forced the poor families to follow up the healthy and educational status of their children and contributed to reducing child labor. Among the obstacles of the solidarity program at the countryside is that it does not include financial help, the limit number of the poor covered by the program. Also, it does not include many poor peoples at the countryside, especially those who have recently married. In addition, the help presented by the program do not suit the actual needs of beneficiary families, and the low monthly help.
