Abstract

The research deals with the artistic reality of the Iraqi novel after 2003, which witnessed huge changes as a result of the American occupation of Iraq and its consequences. The research is divided into three chapters, preceded by an introduction. The methodology applied in this research is the comparative analytical approach. The first chapter discussed how the Iraqi novel was affected by the changes in the Iraqi reality, such as the occupation and sectarian violence that led to death and destruction, so the theme of war and death has become prevalent in the Iraqi novel after 2003. The second chapter dealt with the most important literary genres in the Iraqi novel after 2003. The most important of them was the exile novel, whether exile outside the homeland or within oneself, as a reflection of the politically and socially turbulent events. One of the most important gains of Iraqi literature was the growth of the Iraqi women's novel, and its expression of women's identity in connection with the Iraqi reality. The new Iraqi novel also went to new horizons to express the Iraqi reality. The third chapter dealt with the critical trends of the Iraqi novel after 2003, as the Iraqi novel developed on the narrative level and used distinctive novelistic elements, such as the verbal paradox, the paradox of title, and intertextuality especially with the Holy Quran.
