The Social and family motives for returning to the drugs in the UAE

Abstract

This study is based on a local and regional statistics of spreading drugs addiction Phenomenon and relapse. Drugs addiction is a global Phenomenon spreading in societies characterized relatively by size, kind, and spread. the government has took this into account and paid a lot of attention to this phenomenon. It established rehabilitation centers for the abusers to get rid of addiction. It also conducted social programs and recommended post-observing abusers to avoid relapse. Despite of government actions, the statistics issued by Abu Dhabi National Rehabilitation Centre shows that relapse after rehabilitation has increased noticeably as the local percentage reached (49%) in 2018 compared to global percentage (65%).
According to that, the researcher investigated the motives that cause relapse after rehabilitation by searching literature and made a survey to gather data from addicts in Punitive and Correctional Institutions that follow the Ministry of Interior. The sample was (190) persons and were selected by using Non- Probability- Purposive Sample method.
The study has pointed out many conclusions, the main are as follows: the motives of being back to the addiction are correlated and cannot be restricted to one or two motives and factors. Regarding social factor shows that the ex-addicts exposes to social rejection such as interpersonal rejection, familial estrangement, neighbors ignorant, marriage rejection, and absence of specialized social guidance has also an essential role in relapse ,while family factor the study shows that parent's problems, other family members quarrels and differences, luxury life and over-pampering have a vital role in making the persons back to addiction.
Finally studies have recommended the importance of activating and supporting of the social and family institutions. Also increasing the awareness of people in the society about this phenomenon.
