Abstract

The study aims to assess the role of the alternative families in confronting the problem of unknown parentage by identifying the expected roles of alternative families and the objectives that should be achieved through these households, and the factors that influence the performance of their roles positively, and the problems faced by children of unknown parentage with alternative families. The study also tries to evaluate the regulation of alternative care, which falls within the executive regulations of the Child Law promulgated by Law No. 12 of 1996, in order to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the regulation, and the ability of these regulations to contribute to the success of alternative families.
From this standpoint, the qualitative approach was adopted through the application of the interview manual to twenty foster families in the city of Ismailia who were chosen in a deliberate manner,In addition to a sample of experts (social workers) working in the Directorate of Social Solidarity.
The study reached several results, the most important of which are: That alternative families play an important role in the process of socialization and health care and provide a psychological climate suitable for children of unknown parentage, but alternative families face several problems affecting their functioning and therefore cannot do their role as expected from them.
