Abstract

This study aims to use linguistic discourse analysis techniques; specifically the research in the discourse of journey, and the comparison between two works, belonging to two distinct literary genres.  They are the literature of the journey and the literature of novel, though in the end they bore the title of the journey. The first journey is one of the most famous realistic journeys that crossed the borders of the Arab world to reach the whole world. On the other hand, the second is an example of a symbolic journey that approaches reality at times, and differs from it at other times. It also represents the work of a writer who crossed the borders of the Arab world to globalism as well.
They are the journey of (Mohammed bin Abdullah al-Lawati al-Tanji), nicknamed "Ibn Battuta", and "called ""A Masterpiece of the Beholder in the Strangeness of Lands and the Wonders of Travel" ", known briefly as "The Journey of Ibn Battuta"; and the novel of "The Journey of Ibn Fattumah", by the international Arab novelist (Najeeb Mahfouz).  .
The comparison between them was made in the semiotics of the title, characters, time, place, events, and language, and was started with a brief information of the two journeys and their authors.
Therefore, this study sought to answer and to conclude its questions and comparisons - with its many facets – so as to confirm the characteristics of each of these journeys, and to highlight the points of differences and the coalition between them.
