Abstract

This research aims to clarify the role of soft scripts in the decoration of applied artifacts in the first four Hijri centuries (7-10 AD), and to trace the development of these scripts, the impact of the raw material and the Technique in them. It was found through the study that the use of the soft script beside the Angled writing in the same text on a lot of artifacts. The pottery models were influenced by the inscriptions on tombstones, while the writings on the glass were influenced by the lines on the papyrus. Textiles uniquely combine the two types of calligraphy in a beautiful arrangement, despite not adhering to the rules of either.
