Health Status in Sohag Governorate - Comparative Analytical Study

Abstract

The study deals with the health situation in Sohag Governorate in order to identify the health situation in Sohag governorate and the availability of health services in Sohag governorate compared to its counterparts all over Egypt , The amount of health care given to  people all over Egypt. As well as to identify the health status of Sohag governorate; in order to enable officials to develop future plans to face the phenomenon of poor distribution in the future.
The study based on the analytical descriptive approach in reviewing the literary works related to the study subject, which is available in specialized universities and research centers, as well as the local and international reports, official statistics issued by the Central Agency for Population Mobilization and Statistics and the Ministry of Health and Population to monitor the state of health in Egypt and the world. The study also adopted a comparative approach to compare the health situation in Sohag governorate with the general health situation all over Egypt.
The study found out that the share of citizens in Sohag governorate of health services and human resources working in the field of health is not commensurate with their peers all over Egypt. Therefore, it suffers from a shortage of health facilities and manpower in the field of health, which lead to Increase the demand for these health, the spread of diseases, and inequality. The health status of Souhag residents indicates that the number of patients is higher than the number of patients all over Egypt, while the governorate of Sohag has an increase in the fertility rate, which results in an increase in the birth rate and a decrease in the number of child and infant deaths and thus the rate of natural increase in the population.
As a result of the disparity in the amount of services and the decrease in the amount of public expenditure on health, the study recommends increasing the financial budget of the Ministry of Health to expand the provision of medical services throughout Egypt and to redistribute health workforce in the governorate. This can be achieved through the establishment of more hospitals and the appointment of more doctors and staff. the Ministry of Health should also take careof the most needy governorates according to the number of population.
