The Artistic Embodiment of Community Reality in Mesopotamia

Abstract

          We The nature of community/communities that inhabited ancient Mesopotamia, although there are many attributes, factors and links shared among them, still  there are some distinctive features and characteristics that distinguished each society from other societies (previous and recent ones). The characteristics of each society were manifested in its cultural productions in all aspects of everyday life, including the artistic side, whether absolute art or architecture as being a unique technical turning point which has its rules, characteristics and features which makes it different from other arts in terms of what it is and how to study it. However, those ancient societies that lived in Mesopotamia took from art a means for various purposes such as glorification of the gods and their magnificence, the immortalization of the deeds of kings, the portrayal of battles and wars, and the using art as tool for propaganda and media for the State, as well as portrayal of some social phenomena, incarnation of some economic matters, and everyday life issues. Hence, the controversial relation between art and society since Man has long taken art as a means to embody and represent these activities.
