Social Media and its Impact on the Elements of Hershey's Social Bond Within the Jordanian Society from Faculty Members' Perspective in Mu'tah University

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the impact of social media on the elements of Hershey's social bond in the Jordanian society from the perspective of faculty members in Mu'tah university. To achieve the objectives of the study, the analytical descriptive approach was utilized as the study adopted the social survey approach using a questionnaire tool. A sample of faculty members in Mu'tah university was selected from scientific and human faculties, it was consisted of 312 faculty members representing about 48% of the total population of the study. The results indicated that the impact of social media on the elements of Hershey's social bond in the Jordanian society from faculty members' perspective in Mu'tah university came high with a mean of (3.70). The results also indicated that the impact of social media on individual's social integration within the society came first in relative importance with a mean of (3.84) followed by the impact of social media on individual's belief in rules justice with a mean of (3.75) at a high level, and the impact of social media in individual's attachment with the society came third with a mean of (3.69) at a high level, and finally came the impact of social media on individual's commitment  within the society with a mean of (3.51) at a medium level. The study recommended with the necessity of rationalizing the use of social media sites in a manner that does not attract the individual to them on the expense of his/her real attachment with his/her society through increasing awareness about the pros and cons of these social media using several methods such as seminars, lectures, and  media of all forms.
