Abstract

This study investigated the subject of the sociological fear of epidemics and pandemics. The researcher focused on the Covid-19 pandemic as a model for pandemics and epidemics, and defined the research questions as follows: What are the reasons behind the formation of the phenomenon of fear of the Covid-19 pandemic in the research communities? ,What are the manifestations and repercussions of fear of the Covid-19 pandemic?, What are the most important measures taken by members of the research community to overcome fear of the Covid-19 pandemic? .The researcher relied on the social survey method, and conducted a field study on a sample from Cairo City , the size of which reached (1080 individuals). The researcher used the questionnaire tool. The field study concluded with a number of results, including: The commitment of the members of the research sample was high, including not traveling, refraining from going out at the time of the curfew, adherence to social distancing measures.. The results also revealed the multiple causes of fear of the pandemic, including the speed with which the disease spread, the lack of a timeline for the end of the crisis, and the ease of transmission from one person to another. Some manifestations and repercussions of fear of Covid-19 is avoiding shaking hands with others, panicking at any symptoms of the common cold, and avoiding visiting patients.
