Abstract

The multi-functionality of the conjunctions in Persian is one of the linguistic phenomena based on the link between the change that occurs in the structure, and its significance that contributes to clarifying the meaning. It means the multiplicity of functions performed by the conjunctions in the sentence, and thus the meanings and semantics performed by the conjunctions in Persian language. The search is limited to tools that have multi-functionality; that is, it plays different roles within the sentence without addressing the tools that play a single functional role within it; as it may be semantic, but not functional.
This research, in its applied side, is based on the Persian poetry of the great Persian poets, as poetry is a fertile and rich material for studying the conjunctions in Persian, and through it, the multiplicity of functional and semantic conjunctions can be noticed. Examples of poets on whom the research relied include Al- Firdawsi, Al- Khayyam and Al- Attar, Galal Al- Din Al- Rumi, Al- Anwari, Parween Isami, Al- Kashani, Hafez, Saadi, and others.
The research depends on the descriptive approach, which is the basis of linguistic approaches, based on the description of the phenomenon, and its analysis through the functional analysis approach. The research also depends on the semantics approach in revealing the meanings contained in the linguistic system; where the analysis depends on deconstructing the structure linguistically and syntactically and reconstructing it semantically.
The research came out with many results, including, the poetic material under study helped in revealing many of the structural and semantic dimensions of the conjunctions. The multiplicity of semantic meanings of the etymological "AND"; Where it is given multiple meanings such as abundance, contempt, minimization, and similarity. "Ta" has many functions as a conjunction, as it has departed from its function to be a conditional tool, a conjunction tool, an interrogative tool, a time constraint, and other functions. Furthermore, to many of the results that came out at the end of the research.
