Abstract

This study is concerned with the development of fish resources in the north-western area of Libya. The lengthy coast is rich with marine resources, especially fish. So, this resource can be used as a means to provide food. Thus, this study aimed at showing the infrastructure and fundamental features of fish production, the real state of fishing ports and harbors, besides the obstacles that prevent the use of this resource. The regional method and the analytical method are used, in addition to conducting a field study on fishing ports, and the use of the statistical methodthe to analyze the results.

The study found out many results, most notably,the fundamental features and infrastructure of the Libyan north-western area that enhanced the development of fishery resources, in addition to some constraints, most notably, the environmental problems, especially pollution, and production and marketingproblems.The study provided some recommendations, including encouraging and supportingfishermen and maintaining fishing units and equipment and its spare parts, modernizing the existing ports and harbors, establishing new ports and protecting beaches from pollution.
