Human Rights Issues in the Egyptian Press Comparative Study for the Period before and after Revolution of 25th of January and 30th of June

Abstract

The current study aims at monitoring and analyzing the content of the press material on human rights issues before and after the revolution of 25th of January and 30th of June and tos identify the paths of proof and the forces that are effective as contained in the press material in the Egyptian national, party and private newspapers such as (National Al Ahram and Party Al-Wafd and the Private Almasry Alyoum). And analysis of human rights issues frameworks within the framework of the theory of "Analysis of Information Frameworks” In addition to determining the factors influencing the communicator in the Egyptian newspapers (National Al Ahram and Party Al-Wafd and the Private Almasry Alyoum), and the extent of these factors on the role of monitoring and criticism of the human rights situation in Egypt are reflected, through the theory of “Gatekeeper”. The results of the study confirmed that the Egyptian newspapers dealt with 19943 human rights issues during the four study periods and increased their interest in human rights issues in the period after 30th of June revolution compared with the three preceding periods. Noting that the interest of the three Egyptian newspapers in human rights issues under study, was very close, but Al-Ahram newspaper topped the newspapers in terms of interest in dealing with human rights issues, followed by Al-Wafd newspaper and then in the third place was Almasry Alyoum in terms of number of human rights issues presented. The results revealed that the issues of the right of peoples of self-determination, is the clear difference between National Al-Ahram newspaper, and Party Al-Wafd and Private Almasry Alyoum, which was avoided by Al-Ahram newspaper and abandoned the motivation of the masses to change. The results also confirmed that the press material presented by Al-Masry Al-Youm was more neutral than those in Al-Ahram and Al-Wafd. As for the general framework of human rights issues, the results confirmed that Al-Ahram presented most of its rights issues in the framework of "Non-Violated Rights". While Al-Wafd and Almasry Alyoum presented most of the human rights issues within the framework of "Violated Rights", it is worth mentioning that Almasry Alyoum surpassed Al-Wafd in presenting rights issues under "Non-Violated Rights" framework.
