This is a historical study of the historical and literary source references that included the relationship of the adulteress to the sea in the Athenian society in the fifth century BC. The study was motivated by observation of the dominant concern of Athenian mentality of women's transgressions and control of their behavior.
The study presented the three ways to punish sinners by sea:
1. Pushing the faults in it to sink.
2. The delivery of the prostitutes to the merchants to sell them as slaves
3. Forcing an adulteress to travel and marry a foreigner outside the country
These three axes are what the study is about
