Abstract

This paper targeted the major problems and challenges the discipline of comparative literature was facing since the beginning of the second half of twentieth century, in the so called crisis of comparative literature, then the second crisis in the 1990s, until the present. I discussed the political and epistemological factors, Eurocentrism, and the problem of Monolingualism to reveal and explain their role in the said problems. The paper reviewed the main sources on the subject. This paper pursued the emergence and gaining presence of cultural studies in the human sciences since 1960s, then the interaction and interdisciplinarity of those fields, also the comparison shift to a tool in the human sciences. In addition, I discussed the integration of critical approaches, postmodernism, postcolonialism with the cultural studies. And as a result of these problems, questions and integration in the human sciences, the (comparative cultural studies) has presented itself at the levels of theory, Methodology, and application. The paper indicated, according to Steven Totosy, the differences between the state of the discipline in the west, and the state of the discipline in the east and particularly, in the Arab world with the reality of its amazing research and scientific prosperity. Thus leads to the prospects for research and encourage further application.
