Abstract

This study started from the goal chairman is to study and analyze the role of virtual communities in the formation of social capital in Saudi society, and that by doing a field study on a random sample of students of the Faculty of Arts for Girls Dammam, especially students employed for the Internet and were participating in them, to see the vision of the relationship between virtual communities and social capital and its role in the formation of social capital in Saudi society. This study belongs to the descriptive analytical studies, where Asaant study descriptive and analytical approach. Has been relying on data collection questionnaire was applied to a random sample of students in the Faculty of Arts for Girls Dammam size was (200) single.

The study found a range of results from the most important to communicate over the Internet and participate in virtual communities contribute to the building and the formation of social capital; where he supports equality and participation among all members of the group, strengthens the weak relationships, and encourages multiple relationships and complexity, it also serves as a window to express openly about the opinion of its members on subjects in which they find it difficult to express them freely and openly and face to face with others, and interact and communicate with members of the virtual community relieve loneliness and isolation.
