Political Cleavage in Egyptian Public Sphere: A field study.

Abstract

This research attempts to account for number of forms of political cleavage in Egyptian public sphere between the January 2011 and June 2013 revolutions and levels and causes of cleavage by identifying the perceptions of a sample of individuals and their attitude towards some of the events that took place within the political field during that period. The research present a theoretical analysis of the concept of political cleavage and public sphere based on sociological theory. The research was based on conducting a field study to account for political cleavage and its levels. The most prominent results showed that there was an increase in areas of disagreement among most of the study sample about a large number of events due to the increased severity of cleavage and polarization during that period.
