The study shows the old and modern concepts and definitions of thesauri with reference to their different types, like specialized thesauri, micro thesauri as well as multilingual thesauri. Mentioning almost all the thesauri functions from input to processing up to retrieval, The study also explains the mean linguistic principles that usually building thesauri based on, suffixes and prefixes, Also, the study mentions the hieratical structure of thesauri with emphasis on (the index) which is the important tool to complete the final and successful form of any thesaurus, Presentation of main and most important experiences in building Arabic thesauri achieved by Arabic organization and libraries in the final part of the study.
