Study of sand dunes geomorphology between the governorates of Dhi Qar and Qadissiya

Abstract

This study is one of the topics that is intervention within applied geomorphology, which dealt with study of sand dunes geomorphology between the governorates of Dhi Qar and Qadissiya, which located within the Iraqi flood plain (15241 km2). The region's climate is characterized by drought, low rainfall, high temperature and its effect on sand dunes in the region, Through the use of quantitative analysis revealed that there is a strong correlation between the climatic elements and the formation of sand dunes, as evidenced by the study of the spread of several types of sand dunes, especially the crescent, longitudinal dunes and sand ripples, which are distributed in a different ways in the study area. The study also showed that the dunes are characteised by different morphomrtric dimensions.
