Criminal policies in the face of IT crimes in Omani society From the point of view of lawyers in the Sultanate of Oman

Abstract

This study came to identify the reality of cybercrimes, which greatly threatens members of society and works to undermine the pillars of security and stability, and demolish the social, economic and cultural building of Omani society, all of which led to the intensification of governmental and societal efforts in all its groups to try to address these crimes  by identifying their causes and effects, Thus, finding appropriate solutions to reduce and eliminate them, by answering the main question: criminal policies in the face of information technology crimes in Omani society from the viewpoint of lawyers in the Sultanate of Oman.
The importance of this study stems from the importance of the subject itself being a topical topic and appears before the countries that are constantly working to combat cybercrime challenges and major implications. The study aims mainly to identify the role of criminal policies in facing information technology crimes on Omani society, and to identify forms of technical crime Information in Omani society, and the reflection of information technology crimes on Omani society.

Among the most important results of the study was that the percentage of lawyers in the Sultanate of Oman who dealt with technical crime cases for information reached (70%) of the study sample individuals, and that the criminal policy contributes to the Sultanate of Oman in protecting the members of the Omani community from the negative effects of electronic means of communication in the community with an average of (4.07), and the most prominent proposals of the study sample were developing laws and legislations, raising awareness and education among members of society, and strengthening the criminal policy in the Sultanate with procedural texts related to information technology issues, especially in relation to proof of crime and procedures for collecting evidence, and the results also showed counting There are statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) according to the nature of the work, as the value of P (1.744) and statistically significant amounted to (176), as well as the presence of statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) according to gender, where the value of P ( 33.520) With a statistical significance of (.000), the differences came in favor of males, and the absence of statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) according to the number of years of experience, where the value of P (1.289) and with a statistical significance amounted to (.278), the presence of statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) according to the educational level, where the value of P was (18.452) and with a statistical significance of (.000) and the differences came in favor of a Bachelor’s degree.
