Transformation of Saudi universities into non-profit universities in the light of global experiences: a proposed strategy.

Abstract

The study aimed to diagnose the reality of funding sources for Saudi universities, then review successful international experiences of non-profit universities, and define the requirements for the process of converting Saudi public universities into non-profit universities. Finally, build a proposed shift strategy. I used the descriptive survey method, through the questionnaire and interview tools. The study was  applied to two categories: faculty members at King Saud University and King Abdulaziz University, and they numbered (877) and the academic leaders have reached (52). The result of the study: The approval of the study sample on the presence of strengths in Saudi universities with a high degree came with an average arithmetic average of (3.37) and weaknesses in Saudi universities with a high degree came with an average arithmetic average of (3.38). Challenges for Saudi universities with a high degree, with a general arithmetic average of (3.41) and opportunities for Saudi universities with a high degree with an average arithmetic average of (3.47) and the existence of requirements to convert public universities into non-profit universities. He then presented global experiences of non-profit universities in developed countries and building a strategy for transformation in light of the experiences presented. What was recommended by the study was the adoption of the proposed strategy and support the senior leaders and decision-makers in the state for targeted university investments of all kinds.
