Abstract

Migrant poets have written extensively on Prophet Mohammed Ibn Abdullah in a constellation of poems, which constitute a phenomenon worth considering. The present study has identified the extent to which this poetry on the prophet’s portrait is a laden structure embedded in social formations through which migrant poets have led their own lives. In the theoretical context of configurative structuralism, the study has attempted to address such questions as: What is the general framework that has informed the non-Muslim Arab poets’ portrait of the prophet? What is the specificity that has distinguished the migrant poets from other poets concerning the prophet’s portrait? How have the migrant poets grappled with the prophet’s portrait in view of their understanding of poetry, particularly in terms of composition, function, and as a tool? Is the prophet’s portrait by the migrant poets distinct from that by Muslim Arab poets?
