Abstract

The subject of the current research is the urban growth in light of the sociological theories and its relation with globalization. To study this important topic, it was necessary to shed light on what is the concept of globalization, in terms of definition, characteristics, and its implications.
The research also included the topic of urban growth, in terms of: the definition, characteristics and theories related and explained to urban growth.
Then the research moved to clarify the impact of globalization on urban growth and the problems that it creates in the city's structure, by presenting a set of the most influential considerations of globalization on urban growth, and then exposure to a set of dimensions that explain the relationship of globalization to urban transformation, and to the spread of cities as a global phenomenon and the extent of its negative impact on social life, especially in developing and poor countries.
The research also included the policies and measures related to urban transformation in the light of global challenges. Finally, the research dealt with the subject of sustainable development, which leads to understanding the relationship between development and environmental, social, cultural and ethical considerations.
This will lead to understand sustainable urbanization and sustainable cities as a crucial element for national and global sustainable development.
