Abstract

The research demonstrates the features of textual enallage  in Souad’s poems according to five mechanisms  as follows: the mechanism of textual enallage through paradox,  the mechanism of textual enallage through repetition, the mechanism of textual enallage through rhythm and music, the mechanism of textual enallage through foreign languages and the mechanism of textual enallage through retrospection technique. Besides, all her poems include various types of textual enallage which all do coherence of the text as well as semantic coherence which enhances the text and structure of the poems.

The research has founded that poetess Souad al Sabah is versed at linguistic and rhetorical tools. Moreover, she makes use of these tools in her flows of poetic revelation so eloquently and briefly, so her poems are harmonious with the meanings of her topics in spirit and content. Also, she takes real care of the textual enallage in quotation and embedding. However, quotation is more present than embedding in her poems. Maybe this refers to her influence by the conservative Islamic environment in which she lives.
