Abstract

Novel played an important role in cultural and social life, and achieved a quality shift in the level of its development and establishment in Arabic literature. It raises the social and political cases in an artistic way to resolve the ideological and physiological problems.  We notice that modern narration theories gave great attention to study novel components, and among the most notable was the character. It is an embedded part of the narrative operation, it is the first basis that represents the writer’s thoughts when he builds his novel. He adopts some characters to express his imagination and represent his idea. It also helps to understand and imagine the events linked to time and place. Recently, several novels appeared especially after Baghdad occupation and the fall of the previous regime, which took topics related to painful Iraqi situation and the war issues and its influences on people. My selection of this novel as a field of research was because it is a documentary and recording novel, its heroes are the people (the Iraqis). The writer took Baghdad city as a place for the events. The novel talks about the Iraqi Iranian war events and after the occupation as a time  for the events and presents the effects of the war and its effects until the occupation of Baghdad through the novel’s characters.
