This study addresses an important issue in modern critical studies, which is the theme of setting, with particular reference to the Saudi writer (Muhammad Al-Othaim). He is considered as one of the most essential drama leaders in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in particular, and the Arab world in general.
The study examines the most crucial aspects of Al-Othaim's theatrical work through the feature of setting that is to highlight its aesthetics patterns. Furthermore, to see how setting is related to other narrative dimensions. This based on an analytical descriptive approach, which is drawn from recent critical studies in this regard.
This study encompasses an introduction, a brief background, three fields of research, and a conclusion, which comprises the fundamental results of the study. The study is divided into two parts: The first part is a brief background about Muhammad Al-Othaim, and his most outstanding dramatic works, and the position of these dramatic works in the Saudi literary works in general, and then the most notable characteristics of his plays. The second part focuses on setting and literature, and the concept of dramatic setting from Muhammad Al-Othaim's point of view. The first field of research copes withthe setting patterns in terms of closed and open settings. The second field of research incorporates setting description and its relation with described aesthetics, which involves shape, and color. This field of study looks deep to the modulating and visual content with their internal and external splits. The third field of study entails setting and its relation with the main elements of narrativity such as character, time and incident.
